CONSENT:
Please take a moment, especially if you have a new student, to review your Permissions in Skyward for the Clinic and Counselor. Please see the attached form. It allows us to help with more things OR it tells us to withhold things like screenings, itch cream, eye wash solution, petroleum jelly, Sting-kill, etc.
SCREENINGS:
Texas-mandated screenings will begin in mid September. We'll let you know only if the student requires a referral.
Who is screened?
Hearing:
Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, and any students new to the district or referred for screening. We don't screen students currently under professional care for hearing conditions or with hearing aids or implants.
Vision:
Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, and any students new to the district or referred for screening. Please send your student with their glasses.
Acanthosis Nigricans:
1st, 3rd, 5th, and students new to the district in 1st grade or higher. This is typically done during hearing screening because it just requires a quick glance at the back of the neck. Please see the attached form for more information. Anyone screened positive will privately have their height, weight, and blood pressure checked to include on the referral.
Later in the school year:
November: 5th grade girls spinal screening by a female nurse, not Nurse Luke.
Spring semester: 3rd graders typically receive dental screening in February/March.
We're here to help - please reach out for any questions or concerns!
